Benefits and drawbacks of remote bathymetric methods with UAVs: green-wavelength bathymetric LiDAR; low-frequency GPR; and classic single-beam echosounders on a rope in the article published in Sea Technology

Flying drones, or uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs), can facilitate remote bathymetry. Currently, there are at least three technologies commercially available for remote bathymetry using UAVs: green-wavelength bathymetric LiDAR; low-frequency, ground-penetrating radar (GPR); and classic single-beam echosounders on ropes. Each method has its own benefits and drawbacks.

✅ Alexey Dobrovolskiy, CTO of SPH Engineering outlines the benefits and drawbacks of each method in the article published in Sea Technology magazine.
