Flying drones, or uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs), can facilitate remote bathymetry. Currently, there are at least three technologies commercially available for remote bathymetry using UAVs: green-wavelength bathymetric LiDAR; low-frequency, ground-penetrating radar (GPR); and classic single-beam echosounders on ropes. Each method has its own benefits and drawbacks.
✅ Alexey Dobrovolskiy, CTO of SPH Engineering outlines the benefits and drawbacks of each method in the article published in Sea Technology magazine.
