How it Works

The system consists of the Geonics EM61Lite time domain metal detector mounted on a drone. Survey missions are planned and flown in automatic mode with UgCS.

The adding of the onboard computer UgCS SkyHub enables the drone to fly in True Terrain Following (TTF) mode with the help of the radar altimeter and to log geotagged sensor data.

Optional component: RTK/PPK GNSS receiver on the drone to geotag the data with cm-level precision.

Recommended Set

  • Drone: DJI M600 Pro or similar size.
    Note: drones like DJI M200/210 or M300 are not suitable for EM61Lite due to the suspension system.
  • Flight Planning Software: UgCS PRO with special add-on the UgCS Custom Payload Monitor (CPM) to control low-altitude flight in True Terrain-Following mode and receive metal detector data in real-time.
  • True Terrain Following System: UgCS SkyHub with precise radar altimeter to acquire hi-resolution data at low altitude.
  • Data Processing Software: Geosoft Oasis Montaj or Golden Software Surfer.
  • Power Converter with a remotely controlled relay to feed EM61Lite from the drone’s battery.
  • Optional Component: RTK/PPK GNSS receiver on the drone to geotag the data with cm-level precision.
